DGR Signs MoU with IBM to Empower Ex-Servicemen in the Civilian Workforce

The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), a division under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare of the Ministry of Defence, has entered into a strategic partnership with IBM, a globally recognized technology company, through the signing of an MoU. The primary objective of this collaboration is to actively involve ex-servicemen and support their smooth transition into the civilian workforce. Through this strategic partnership, DGR and IBM will tap into the talent pool of ex-servicemen to provide them with relevant job opportunities within the company and its affiliates.

Bridging the Gap: Military Service to Civilian Employment

IBM’s main aim in this collaboration is to bridge the transition gap between military service and civilian employment for ex-servicemen, facilitating their successful integration into the civilian workforce. The company aims to offer veterans exciting opportunities for professional growth and personal development. By leveraging their resources and expertise, IBM will work closely with DGR on an ongoing basis to identify ex-servicemen with suitable skill sets and aptitudes for various open positions within the organization. Once the candidates are assessed and shortlisted, IBM will facilitate their recruitment, training, and upskilling.

Enhancing Visibility and Providing Second Careers

Maj Gen Sharad Kapur, the Director General (Resettlement), expressed his optimism regarding the partnership with IBM India. He highlighted that the collaboration would bring more visibility for ex-servicemen to the industry and corporate sectors. The objective is to provide skilled manpower and dignified second careers to these deserving individuals who have served the nation.

Empowering Ex-Servicemen through Employment

Over the past year, from April 2022 to March 2023, a significant number of ex-servicemen, totaling 24,234 individuals, have gained employment in various sectors. The Armed Forces retire or release approximately 60,000 service personnel each year at a relatively young age. DGR plays a crucial role in assisting ex-servicemen in acquiring additional skills that align with the evolving requirements of the corporate and industrial sectors. By facilitating their resettlement through second careers, DGR empowers ex-servicemen to transition successfully into civilian life.
