Ola Cabs to Exit UK, Australia, and New Zealand Markets by Month-End

Ola Cabs, a prominent ride-hailing service, is set to cease operations in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand by the end of this month. The company has initiated the process by informing users through notifications, with operations in Australia slated to pause from April 12.

Since its launch in 2018, Ola has been operating in Australia and New Zealand. However, recent reports indicate that the company has instructed its drivers to remove all identifying labels and halt bookings under its permits starting April 12, as conveyed in an email to Ola’s drivers.

A spokesperson for Ola emphasized the shift towards electric mobility, stating, “The future of mobility is electric.” The company aims to redirect its focus towards the electrification of its fleet, with plans to purchase 8,000 electric scooters from its sister firm, Ola Electric. Additionally, Ola intends to electrify its three-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles entirely.

In January, Ola Cabs’ CEO, Hemant Bakshi, reiterated the company’s commitment to electric mobility, signaling a strategic shift in priorities. By exiting international markets, Ola aims to consolidate its resources and concentrate on expanding its operations within India, where it sees significant opportunities for growth.
