IBM came into existence on 1st March 1948, based on the recommendations of the National Mineral Policy Conference. The organization has been fulfilling a dual role of enforcing statutory provisions and engaging in various development activities.

The Indian Bureau of Mines has been responsible for the promotion, conservation, and systematic development of mineral resources in the country. It also serves as a nodal agency for the regulation of the mining industry in India, ensuring that mining operations are conducted in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible manner. IBM is also responsible for the implementation of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017.

IBM has played a vital role in the development of the mining industry in India by facilitating the exploration, prospecting, and assessment of mineral resources. The organization has also been instrumental in the formulation of policies and guidelines for the sustainable development of the mining sector. IBM has been actively promoting the use of modern technologies in mining operations, including the use of drones for mineral exploration, satellite-based monitoring of mining activities, and the implementation of advanced safety measures in mines.

The 75th Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Bureau of Mines mark an important milestone in the organization’s journey. The event provides an excellent opportunity for the mining industry in India to showcase its achievements and future plans. The event also serves as a platform for stakeholders to come together and discuss issues related to the mining sector, with a focus on sustainable development.
