On February 24, 2023, Lieutenant General RS Reen took over as Director of General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) in India. Lieutenant General Reen is a 1986-batch officer and an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, with a specialization in Radio Engineering, and his post-graduation in Communication Engineering from MC EME, Secunderabad.
Lieutenant General Reen is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and has done certification in Reliability Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. He is also a Qualified Lead Auditor in Quality Management Systems & Integrated Management Systems from Bureau Veritas, Bengaluru. Additionally, he was a senior faculty at the Defence Institute of Quality Assurance, Bengaluru.
Lieutenant General Reen has held several positions of responsibility during his tenure. He has headed a Senior Quality Assurance Establishment and has been a Brigadier at Headquarters, Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA). He was also the Controller (Missile System) in Secunderabad and the Additional Director General (Electronics) at HQ DGQA, New Delhi, where he headed the DQA(L).
The DGQA is an Inter-Service Organization that operates under the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence. It is responsible for second-party quality assurance of all defence stores and equipment, both imported and indigenous, for the Indian Army, and Indian Navy (excluding Naval Armaments), and common use items for the Indian Air Force that are procured from private and public sector undertakings.
As the new Director General of Quality Assurance, Lieutenant General RS Reen will be responsible for ensuring that all defence equipment meets the highest quality standards. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of quality assurance and is expected to provide strong leadership to the DGQA.
