NHAI is focusing on creating awareness around road safety during “Road Safety Week” from 11th to 17th January 2023.

Road safety is being given a lot of emphasis by the authority by training NHAI engineers in Road Safety Audits to enhance engineering measures.

15 days of Road Safety Audit Training is being imparted by NHAI to its engineers. A key criterion for promotion to the post of Manager and Deputy General Manager is the completion of training. Approximately 240 NHAI engineers will be trained at IIT Delhi, Central Road Research Institute, and Indian Academy of Highway Engineers during the 2022-23 year.

NHAI is prioritizing the deployment of technology to make highways safer. The Advance Traffic Management System is being used on National Highways and Expressways to help manage incidents of road crashes, enforce speed limit regulations, and help with other highway regulations.

Around 3,000 km of National Highways have had the ATMS implemented. ATMs are also being installed on further projects under implementation, such as the Delhi- Mumbai Expressway. NHAI is also looking at using GIS technology to analyze drone videos and Network Survey Vehicle data to identify safety issues on highways.

‘Road Safety Week’ is being observed from 11th to 17th January 2023 to propagate the cause of safer roads for all. Throughout the country, various activities are being organized during the week to create awareness among the general public and to give all stakeholders an opportunity to contribute to the cause of road safety. Various awareness campaigns related to the causes of road accidents and measures to prevent them are included.
