The DRDO and Indian Army have successfully conducted six flight-tests of the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile system.

As part of evaluation trials by the Indian Army, the six flight tests of the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system were conducted off the Odisha coast.

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Army successfully completed six flight tests of the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur off the Odisha coast. The MoD said in a statement that the flight tests were conducted as part of evaluation trials by the Indian Army.

The weapon systems were put to the test against high-speed aerial targets that imitate various types of threats, in order to evaluate the capability of the weapon systems under different scenarios. These scenarios include a long range medium altitude, short range, high altitude manoeuvring target, low radar signature with receding & crossing target, and a salvo launch with two missiles fired in quick succession.

“The successful flight trials of the QRSAM weapon system are a great accomplishment for DRDO and the Indian Army,” said Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence. “I am confident that this system will be an excellent force multiplier for our Armed Forces.”

The Defence Ministry said that all the mission objectives were met during these tests, establishing pin-point accuracy of the weapon system with state-of-the-art guidance and control algorithms including warhead chain.

A number of Range instruments like Telemetry, Radar and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS) deployed by ITR have confirmed the performance of the system, the MoD said.
