Red Fort – History

The Red Fort or Lal Quila is a fort in Delhi, India, that was built during the Mughal era between 1639 and 1648. It served as the residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years till 1857 when the British captured Delhi. The red sandstone used for building was brought from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.

What is the Red Fort?

The Red Fort is a 16th-century mausoleum built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his deceased wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was commissioned in 1638 A.D. and took 14 years to complete.
