BJP and Congress Clash Over Rahul Gandhi's Remark on Muslim League's "Secularism''

02-06-2023

Rahul Gandhi, during an interaction in Washington DC, called the Muslim League, the Congress's ally in Kerala, a "completely secular party" about the Congress's alliance and opposition to BJP's Hindutva politics.

The BJP, reacting to Gandhi's remark, accuses him of making a "disingenuous and sinister" statement, alleging that he referred to the Muslim League as secular due to political expediency.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is based in Kerala, which is the Congress's ally, and Jinnah's Muslim League are two distinct and unrelated parties. The IUML is a traditional ally of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala.

Congress leader Pawan Khera defends the alliance with the Muslim League and criticizes the BJP's understanding, highlighting the difference between Kerala's Muslim League and Jinnah's Muslim League.

A video clip of Rahul Gandhi's statement goes viral on social media, leading to further controversy and intensified exchanges between the BJP and Congress supporters.
