The Acadian Flycatcher: An Unique Bird

The Acadian flycatcher has a white eye-ring, white wing bars, and a broad bill.

The upper part of the Acadian flycatcher's bill is black, The lower part is yellow.

In Acadia, present-day Nova Scotia, 15 species of this genus were discovered. These species were once thought to be a single species.

The recognition of them as separate species is eventually due to the differences in range, voice, and habitat. Acadia currently does not have the "Acadian flycatcher."

Their nest is a loose cup nest in a horizontal fork in a tree or shrub.

It is very mobile, can hover in the air, and can even fly backward.

Perching in the middle of a tree, they wait to fly out and catch insects in flight.

Also sometimes they pick insects from leaves by hovering (picking). They can eat some berries and seeds.
