The National Health Authority’s (NHA) flagship scheme, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), offers patients faster OPD registration service via Scan & Share functionality.

The service, which was piloted from a single hospital in New Delhi in October 2020, has now been adopted in 200+ health facilities across 18 states in India.

The Scan and Share service has saved patients more than 1 lakh time and effort by enabling instant registration for OPD consultations within 75 days of its launch.

The states of Karnataka, Delhi, and the U.P. are among the leading states that are using this facility for providing better service delivery to patients.

This service allows patients to scan the unique QR Code of the participating hospital/ health facility using any health application of their choice (such as ABHA App, Arogya Setu App, EkaCare, DRiefcase, Bajaj Health, PayTM) and share their ABHA profile.

The patient’s demographic details, such as name, guardian’s name, age, gender, address, and mobile number.

The ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) is directly shared with the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) resulting in digital registration. The patient can then collect their outpatient slip and visit the doctor at the counter.

Dr. R. S. Sharma said “We’re making it easier for healthcare delivery processes to work together by building inter-operability,”, CEO of NHA. Scan & Share is a feature that is helping thousands of patients in India on a daily basis.

This instant registration service is being implemented by our team in close cooperation with various hospitals around the nation.

Both hospitals and patients are able to benefit from simple interoperability between the user’s selected application and the HMIS at participating health facilities.

This Scan and Share functionality has made the OPD registration effortless, seamless and accurate. The process has also empowered the patient to register themselves quickly and easily, especially in the case of revisits without standing in long queues.

Not only does this provide immediate and real benefits to patients but it also encourages them to accept digital solutions to their health needs.
