A significant meeting took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan as officers of the Central Water Engineering Services had the honor of meeting the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on August 21, 2023. The meeting focused on the crucial role of water resources management and the contribution of these officers in fortifying the nation against water-related challenges.
Water as Life’s Foundation
Addressing the officers, President Murmu underlined the undeniable significance of water as a fundamental need for all living beings. She acknowledged the long-standing importance and complexity of managing water resources, a challenge that has transcended generations. The officers’ contribution to developing water infrastructure through engineering solutions, she emphasized, will be pivotal in enhancing the country’s resilience against both natural and man-made water crises.
Water Management for Security and Growth
The President highlighted the symbiotic relationship between sustainable water resource development and efficient management, identifying these as critical components of water security and economic growth. As the nation experiences heightened economic growth, urbanization, and development, President Murmu stressed the need for optimal utilization of available resources. She acknowledged the impact of climate change on water resources, pointing out the diverse topographical and climatic patterns across different regions of the country.
A Call for Holistic Approaches
With climate change already affecting the water sector, President Murmu underscored the officers’ responsibility in adopting a holistic approach to address existing and emerging challenges. Central Water Engineering Services officers, she noted, are positioned to play a pivotal role in this endeavor. The President advised the officers to prioritize the development and management of water resources in a sustainable manner, reflecting the multifaceted needs of the nation.
