Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: In a recent address, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored the transformative role of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) in reshaping India’s urban landscape. With enthusiasm, he highlighted the scheme’s monumental impact, stating that it has sanctioned over 1.12 crore affordable housing units, providing millions of citizens across the nation with the opportunity to own a home.
“At the core of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban lies the commitment to alleviate the housing crisis in urban areas,” remarked CM Sarma. “By offering an interest subsidy capped at ₹ 2.67 lakh, the scheme significantly lightens the financial burden on homebuyers, thereby realizing their dreams of homeownership.”
As emphasized by CM Sarma, one of the most commendable aspects of PMAY-U is its inclusive nature. The scheme targets various socioeconomic segments, including Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low-Income Groups (LIG), Middle-Income Groups (MIG), women, and minorities. This inclusive approach ensures that the benefits of urban development are extended to all sections of society, fostering equitable growth and development.
“PMAY-U goes beyond merely providing housing units; it catalyzes holistic development,” CM Sarma asserted. “By stimulating economic growth through the creation of jobs and advocating for environmental sustainability through its emphasis on energy-efficient practices, the scheme plays a significant role in advancing the nation’s overall development.”
