West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed her condolences over the passing of renowned film director and theater personality Gautam Halder, emphasizing the significant loss experienced by the world of culture due to his demise.

The late director, Gautam Halder, aged 80, succumbed to a heart attack on Friday. Halder’s family reported that he suddenly fell ill and was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away en route.

“Gautam Halder, a prominent figure in Bengali cinema, notably directed the film ‘Bhaalo Theko,’ which featured actors like Vidya Balan, Soumitra Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Devashankar Halder. Released in 2003, ‘Bhaalo Theko’ earned recognition, receiving National Awards for Best Cinematography and Audiography. Additionally, in 2019, Halder directed ‘Nirvana,’ starring Rakhi Gulzar”.

Vidya Balan made her debut under Gautam Halder’s direction in ‘Bhaalo Theko,’ marking a significant moment in her career as the film garnered critical acclaim for its storytelling and performances.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her sympathies to the family and admirers of Gautam Halder, acknowledging his valuable contributions to Bengali cinema and theater, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.
