Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commemorated the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj with a humble tribute, acknowledging the valor and sacrifice of the legendary warrior in defense of the motherland, religion, and nation.
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, also known as Shambhuraje, ascended to the throne as the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire in 1681, succeeding his illustrious father, Shivaji, the founder of the empire. His reign unfolded against the backdrop of intense warfare with the Mughal Empire and neighboring powers, including the Abyssinians of Janjira, Wadiyars of Mysore, and the Portuguese Empire in Goa.
Sambhaji’s leadership during these tumultuous times was marked by his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the Maratha Empire. Despite facing formidable adversaries, he displayed remarkable courage and resilience in defending his realm against external threats.
However, Sambhaji’s reign was tragically cut short when he was captured and executed by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1689. His martyrdom further galvanized the Maratha resistance against the Mughal forces, with his brother Rajaram I assuming the mantle of Chhatrapati and continuing the struggle against Aurangzeb’s expansionist ambitions.
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy as a valiant warrior and protector of the nation continues to resonate through the annals of history. His fearless defiance in the face of tyranny serves as an enduring symbol of courage and resilience, inspiring reverence and admiration for generations to come.
