The worsening air quality in Delhi has prompted the Arvind Kejriwal government to implement crucial measures to mitigate the adverse effects of pollution on the city’s residents, especially students. In view of the escalating pollution levels, the decision to keep primary schools closed has been extended until November 10.
Online Classes for Classes 6 to 12
Delhi’s Education Minister, Atishi, revealed the government’s decision to extend the closure of primary schools in the wake of persistently high pollution levels. Moreover, to ensure uninterrupted education for students, the option of conducting online classes has been provided for students from the 6th to 12th grades.
Chief Minister’s Directive
This move follows Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s prior announcement to keep all government and private primary schools in the capital closed for two days, which were initially scheduled to reopen on Saturday. However, the subsequent order by the Education Minister extended this closure until November 10, prioritizing the health and safety of students amidst the severe air pollution.
Additional Measures to Tackle Pollution
In a bid to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the government has imposed stringent restrictions. All non-essential construction activities have been halted, aiming to reduce environmental stress. Furthermore, the entry of diesel trucks into the national capital has been prohibited, in adherence to the directives under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The combined efforts to combat pollution include multifaceted measures, ranging from educational interventions to strict regulatory actions to reduce harmful emissions and minimize environmental impact.
Significance of GRAP Restrictions
The initiation of these restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan signifies the government’s commitment to controlling pollution and safeguarding public health. The ban on certain activities and vehicular entry aims to curtail emissions and subsequently mitigate the exacerbation of air pollution levels.

The collective efforts, including the closure of schools and restrictions on construction and vehicular activities, underscore the urgency to address the critical issue of air pollution in Delhi. The government’s actions are intended to provide a safer and healthier environment for the city’s residents, particularly in the wake of the severe air quality crisis.
