A powerful earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, unleashed devastation in western Nepal, leaving behind a trail of tragedy as the death toll climbed to at least 128 people, while numerous others sustained injuries. The aftermath of the quake saw the collapse of houses in the affected area, amplifying the toll and intensifying the urgency of rescue and relief operations.
The quake, which struck at 23:32:54 IST on 3rd November 2023, has resulted in substantial destruction in the region. Reports confirm that the tremors from the earthquake were felt not only across Nepal but also in northern parts of India, including the national capital region of Delhi.
“The National Center for Seismology reported, “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.4, Occurred on 03-11-2023, 23:32:54 IST, Lat: 28.84 & Long: 82.19, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal.” This detailed information offers insight into the seismic impact and the specific location of the earthquake’s epicenter”.
In response to this calamity, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ wasted no time and immediately led a medical team to the disaster scene. Both the Nepal Army and Nepal Police are actively involved in extensive rescue operations, aiming to save lives and provide assistance to those affected by the catastrophic event.
“The situation remains dire, with the possibility of a rising death toll and increasing challenges in the affected areas. Rescue efforts are ongoing, but the scale of destruction poses significant hurdles for the swift and effective delivery of aid and relief”.
The aftermath of this earthquake underscores the critical need for collective efforts and support from neighboring regions and international aid organizations. The resilience of the affected communities, coupled with the collaborative response of government and relief agencies, will play a pivotal role in addressing the challenges ahead in rebuilding and supporting those impacted by this tragic natural disaster.
