The Ministry of Coal is set to host the prestigious Star Rating Awards ceremony on December 20, 2023, acknowledging the outstanding performance of Coal and Lignite mines. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s dedication to enhancing industry standards, fostering sustainability, and promoting responsible mining practices for the continual growth and development of the sector.
Star Rating Policy and Evaluation:
With a commitment to sustainability, the Ministry has implemented a Star Rating Policy, evaluating mines across seven modules, including mining operations, environmental factors, and safety. Mines are rated on a scale from Five Star to No Star, with a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Coal Controller’s Organization (CCO) to ensure transparency.
Achievements and Recognition:
Over the past four years, 68 mines have earned a 5-star rating, scoring above 91%, with 39 mines receiving top honors. The initiative has significantly elevated performance and sustainability standards in coal and lignite mining, encouraging nationwide participation and advocating for responsible practices.
Efficiency and Cleanliness Drive:
Aligning with the Government of India’s vision for operational efficiency, the Ministry recently concluded Special Campaign 3.0, achieving a commendable 100% success rate in addressing public grievances, PMO references, CMO references, and IMC matters. The campaign included a comprehensive cleanliness drive, space reclamation, and systematic file review, showcasing the Ministry’s commitment to efficiency and transparency.
Reclaimed Space and Creative Repurposing:
The Ministry and its CPSEs secured the top position in the ‘Space Freed’ category, reclaiming 65,89,378 sq. ft. This reclaimed space is utilized for green initiatives, such as plantations and beautification. Additionally, coal PSUs have creatively repurposed mining scrap materials into sculptures and artifacts, showcasing innovation in sustainability.
