His electoral journey commenced in 1998 when he was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

During his tenure from 2003 to 2008, Tomar held ministerial portfolios in several crucial departments. In 2008, he assumed the responsibility of the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh. Tomar transitioned to national politics, representing the Gwalior constituency in the Lok Sabha in 2009. His political acumen and leadership were evident as he was once again appointed as the State President of BJP in 2012.

In 2014, Narendra Singh Tomar secured a seat in the Lok Sabha and went on to become a Union Minister. His political prowess continued, with re-election as a Lok Sabha member in 2019, coupled with another stint as a Union Minister. In 2023, the BJP entrusted him with the MLA ticket, and his subsequent victory paved the way for his current role as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
