“Today, on Armed Forces Flag Day, we honor the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of our brave soldiers. Their dedication to protecting our nation is unparalleled,” remarked PM Modi. The sentiment expressed by the Prime Minister reflects the deep appreciation for the relentless efforts of the armed forces in ensuring the security and sovereignty of the nation.
In addition to acknowledging the valor of the armed forces, PM Modi urged citizens to actively participate in supporting their welfare. Prime Minister stressed the importance of everyone contributing to the Armed Forces Flag Day fund. The observance of Armed Forces Flag Day traces its roots back to the early days of independent India. Post-independence, the government recognized the need to manage the welfare of defense personnel. On August 28, 1949, a committee under the defense minister decided to annually observe Flag Day on December 7. The central idea was to distribute small flags to the general population and collect donations in return.
Flag Day holds immense significance as it symbolizes the responsibility of the civilian population to actively participate in caring for the families and dependents of armed forces personnel. The funds raised on this day contribute to various welfare initiatives aimed at providing support and assistance to those who make sacrifices for the country.
