Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar from 13th to 15th February 2024, marking his seventh visit to the UAE and second to Qatar since assuming office in 2014. This visit underscores the region’s growing strategic importance and reaffirms India’s commitment to deepening its ties with both countries.

Over the past nine years, India’s cooperation with the UAE has witnessed remarkable growth across various sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, food and energy security, and education. The strong cultural and people-to-people connections between the two nations have further bolstered this relationship.

During his stay in the UAE, Prime Minister Modi looks forward to engaging in wide-ranging discussions with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, in Abu Dhabi. The focus will be on advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE. The recent visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Gujarat, where he graced the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 as Chief Guest, highlights the significance of these interactions in strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi will also have the honour of addressing world leaders at the World Government Summit in Dubai, at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Defence Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. Discussions with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid will further enhance ties with Dubai, focusing on diverse areas of mutual interest.

A significant highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the first Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, the BAPS temple, symbolizing the shared values of harmony, peace, and tolerance between India and the UAE.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will address the vibrant Indian community residing across the Emirates of the UAE, recognizing their invaluable contribution to the bilateral relationship.

In Qatar, Prime Minister Modi eagerly anticipates meetings with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir, and other dignitaries. India and Qatar share historically close and friendly relations, characterized by growing cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres. The substantial Indian diaspora in Doha, numbering over 800,000, serves as a testament to the enduring people-to-people ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE and Qatar underscores India’s commitment to furthering its strategic partnerships in the Gulf region, fostering regional stability, and promoting mutual prosperity. These engagements are poised to deepen bilateral cooperation and contribute to the advancement of shared objectives in the years ahead.
