In the wake of monsoon rains that have inundated several regions of Kerala, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an official flood forecast, drawing attention to the severe situation along the Karamana River in the Thiruvananthapuram district. As per the latest reports, the river at Vellaikadavu is experiencing a concerning water level, demanding immediate attention and preparedness.
River Karamana’s Current Status
The CWC has reported that the River Karamana, at the Vellaikadavu monitoring point, is currently flowing at a level of 10.43 meters. This measurement is alarming as it is 0.43 meters above its Danger Level, which stands at 10.0 meters. The river’s flow is also showing a falling trend, indicating that the situation is evolving.
Severe Situation in Thiruvananthapuram District
This development signifies a severe situation for the Thiruvananthapuram district and nearby areas. The rising water levels, coupled with the falling trend, suggest that the region is grappling with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
The Danger of Floods
The Danger Level of 10.0 meters serves as a critical threshold, and any water levels surpassing this mark can lead to significant problems. This includes the risk of flooding, which can have far-reaching consequences for residents, property, and infrastructure.

Given the severity of the situation, local authorities and residents in the affected areas are urged to take immediate precautions and be prepared for potential flooding.
