Thunderstorms and Duststorms with Light to Moderate Rain are Expected in Delhi-NCR Region.

A weather alert has been issued for the entire Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) as thunderstorms and duststorms, accompanied by light to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds, are forecast. The areas likely to be affected include Safdarjung, Lodi Road, IGI Airport in Delhi, as well as Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Bahadurgarh, and Ghaziabad in the NCR.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned residents of Delhi and neighboring regions to brace themselves for the incoming weather system. The thunderstorms and duststorms are expected to bring rainfall with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 km/h.

“These weather conditions can have several impacts on daily life. The strong winds may cause tree branches to break or uproot, potentially leading to disruptions in power supply and damage to property. It is advisable for residents to secure loose objects and avoid venturing out during the peak of the storm”.

Furthermore, the rain accompanying the thunderstorm can create slippery road conditions, increasing the risk of accidents. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and maintain reduced speeds while driving. Pedestrians should also take necessary precautions, such as using umbrellas or seeking shelter, to stay protected from the rain and gusty winds.

The duststorms, which are characteristic of this region during the summer months, can result in reduced visibility, affecting transportation and leading to delays in flights and trains. Travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest information from transportation authorities and plan their journeys accordingly.

The IMD has emphasized that the thunderstorms and duststorms are expected to have light to moderate intensity, indicating that while precautions are necessary, the severity is not expected to be extreme. However, it is important to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines provided by local authorities.

“Residents are encouraged to stay indoors, especially during the peak hours when the thunderstorm is expected to be at its strongest. It is recommended to secure doors and windows to minimize the entry of dust or rainwater. It is also advisable to unplug electronic devices to avoid potential damage from power surges”.

The weather conditions are expected to subside gradually as the system moves away from the region. However, it is advisable to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings from the IMD or local meteorological authorities.
