Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur presided over the handoff ceremony of the Chess Olympiad Torch to Budapest, Hungary, marking the countdown to the 45th edition of the prestigious event. The ceremony, held at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi, witnessed a friendly chess match between Anand, Dvorkovich, and Hungarian Grand Master Judit Polgár.

“Expressing his delight, Minister Thakur remarked on the realization of the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay initiative. The upcoming edition in Budapest follows the success of the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai in 2022, which saw participation from over 2500 players and 7000 attendees. The torch relay, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, signifies the global anticipation and excitement surrounding the event.
