Update: Southwest Monsoon Withdraws from Multiple Indian Regions

As India moves further into the month of October, the Southwest Monsoon continues its gradual withdrawal, impacting various regions across the country. On the 17th of October, 2023, significant withdrawal has been observed from multiple states and areas.

Bihar: The monsoon has retreated from the remaining parts of Bihar, marking the end of its presence in this state for the current season.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim: In the northeastern part of India, including Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, the monsoon has withdrawn, bringing a transition in the weather patterns.

Northeast India: The entire Northeast India has witnessed the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon, signaling a change in climatic conditions in this region.

North Bay of Bengal & Central Bay of Bengal: The monsoon has further withdrawn from most parts of the North Bay of Bengal and some additional areas in the Central Bay of Bengal. This marks the shift towards a drier season in these regions.

Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: The monsoon withdrawal has continued in the state of Andhra Pradesh, and it has also covered the remaining parts of Telangana.

The line of withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon now extends through various geographic coordinates, including 20.0°N/96.0°E, 17.0°N/91.5°E, Machilipatnam, Kurnool, Badami, Vengurla, and 16.0°N/70.0°E. This delineates the boundary between areas still influenced by the monsoon and those where its effects have waned.

With the monsoon withdrawal, regions affected will see changes in their weather patterns, including reduced rainfall and transitioning to cooler, drier conditions. Residents and local authorities should stay updated on weather forecasts and adapt to the evolving climate as the monsoon’s influence continues to recede from these areas.
