Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, joined citizens in Delhi this morning for the 35th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle as its chief guest, ahead of Independence Day. Flagged off from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, the weekly nationwide cycling movement—launched in December 2024—has now engaged over 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats.
Addressing participants, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted cycling’s twin benefits for personal fitness and environmental sustainability, calling it “Pollution ka Solution” and linking it to the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He urged citizens to adopt cycling beyond Sundays as a regular mode of transport, reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Mission.
Special guest Sanjeev Rajput, three-time Olympian and Arjuna Awardee, praised cycling as an ideal fitness option for those with cervical issues, adding that it builds a strong mind–body connection. He shared how a dedicated cycling track at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range benefits athletes daily.
The Delhi event also featured yoga, Zumba, rope skipping, badminton, and fun games for children, and welcomed participation from village sarpanches, actors, RWA representatives, MYBharat, and URJA. Since its inception, the movement has touched over seven lakh individuals in more than 40,000 locations, powered by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Cycling Federation of India, and partner organisations.
