On the 26th of February Amit Shah said that every moment of Veer Savarkar’s life was devoted to the motherland. Even the many tortures of the British and the punishment of black water could not deter his resolve to make the country independent. Be it his struggle against untouchability or his thoughts of patriotism, Veer Savarkar will always be the center of inspiration for the country.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar, was an Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter who played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence. He was a multifaceted personality, a poet, writer, and political leader who left an indelible mark on India’s political landscape.

Veer Savarkar was born on May 28, 1883, in the village of Bhagur, located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. His father, Damodar Savarkar, was a prominent figure in the region and was involved in social and political activism. Veer Savarkar was educated at Fergusson College in Pune, where he studied law and was exposed to revolutionary ideas.

Veer Savarkar was a staunch nationalist who believed in armed resistance against British rule. He founded the Abhinav Bharat Society in 1904, which aimed to overthrow British rule in India. In 1909, he was arrested for his involvement in a conspiracy to assassinate a British official and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

During his imprisonment, Veer Savarkar wrote several books and poems, including his seminal work, “The Indian War of Independence 1857,” which detailed the Indian struggle against British colonial rule. He also wrote extensively on Hindu nationalism and advocated for the creation of a Hindu Rashtra, a Hindu nation-state.
