On January 14, Amit Shah wishes everyone a very Happy Magh Bihu. May the harvest festival of Bhogali bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to all.

Know About Magh Bihu:-

Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu or Maghar Domahi, is a harvest festival celebrated in Assam, North-East India. It marks the end of the harvesting season in the month of Magh (January–February). The festival of Magan is developed by the Tibeto-Burman and Indo-Aryan cultures and is a prayer to the God of Fire.

The Bihu festival starts at early dawn with a post-harvesting ceremony called “Meji”. People burn bonfires in the fields and pray to their ancestral gods for blessings in this. The Deori-Chutia word Midi-ye-ji is derived from the word Meji.”Midi” means “Ancestral gods”, “Ye” means “Fire”, and “Ji” means “Fly away”.

This signifies the worship of ancestral spirits which fly away with the fire. The bonfires are usually made with dried Banana leaves, firewood, green bamboo, and hay. A tradition is for people to take a bath before setting up the bonfire.

The ritual of Meji Jwaluva (Meji Firing) is very enjoyable. Bhopal and Meji are worshiped by offering Chicken, Rice cakes, Rice beer, Chira, Pitha, Akhoi, homeroom, Curd, and other eatables. In the end, the Bhelaghar is also burnt and the people consume a special preparation called Mah-Karai, which is a roasted mixture of rice and black gram.

For breakfast and lunch, people consume a variety of traditional dishes such as various fish, chicken, pork, duck, and mutton curries, along with rice and rice beer. The ashes of Alav Meji and Bhelaghar are used in planting trees and crops to increase the fertility of gardens or fields.
