Smriti Zubin Irani, born on March 23, 1976, is a prominent Indian politician, former actress, fashion model, and television producer. Holding various ministerial positions, including Minister of Women and Child Development since 2019 and Minister of Minority Affairs since 2022, she has been a key figure in shaping policies for the welfare of women and minorities in India.
Irani’s political journey has been remarkable, serving as Minister of Human Resource Development, Textiles, and Information and Broadcasting in previous administrations. She also holds the distinction of being the youngest minister in PM Modi’s second ministry in 2019.
As a Member of Parliament since 2011, Irani has represented both the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and the Lok Sabha from the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, she secured victory in Amethi against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections, marking a significant political milestone.
Irani’s diverse family background, encompassing Punjabi, Maharashtrian, and Bengali heritage, reflects India’s rich cultural tapestry. Fluent in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi, she embodies the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
