Early Life and Career
Anand Mahindra was born in Mumbai on 1 May 1955. Jagdish Chandra Mahindra, co-founder of Mahindra & Mahindra in 1945, is his grandfather of him. Anand completed his education at Harvard University and then joined the company in 1981. He started his career in the company’s steel division, Mahindra Ugine Steel, and rose through the ranks to become its President and Deputy Managing Director.
Leadership at Mahindra & Mahindra
In 1997, Anand became chairman and managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra. Since then, the company has seen a significant transformation under his leadership. One of his first major achievements was the acquisition of Kinetic Motor Company, which helped the company to enter the two-wheeler segment. He also led the acquisition of SsangYong Motors, a South Korean car manufacturer, in 2010, which helped the company to establish a strong presence in the global automotive industry.
Apart from the automotive sector, Mahindra & Mahindra has expanded its business into various other sectors, including real estate development and hospitality. The company has also been involved in various philanthropic activities under Anand Mahindra’s leadership. He is a strong advocate of sustainability and has implemented various eco-friendly measures in the company’s operations.

Anand Mahindra has been recognized for his contribution to the Indian business community and has received numerous awards and accolades. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in 2020. He has also been named one of the world’s most powerful people by Forbes magazine on multiple occasions.
