Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, along with Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, launched the 3rd Khelo India Winter Games Mascot, Theme Song and Jersey at Raj Bhavan in Jammu on the 4th Feb.
The Khelo India Winter Games is part of the Khelo India Abhiyan, a program initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote sports and make India a leading player in the international sports arena. Over the past eight years, the initiative has changed the attitudes of families towards sports and has encouraged the youth to participate.
Minister Thakur noted that the infrastructure for sports in India has improved significantly under Prime Minister Modi, who has personally interacted with players before and after international events. The Khelo India Winter Games, which will feature over 1,500 participants from 29 states and territories, will not only encourage the youth in Jammu & Kashmir to participate in sports but will also boost tourism in the region.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir emphasized that the launch of the Khelo India Winter Games sends a message across the country and provides an unforgettable experience. Through the games, young players will be given the best facilities to prepare for the Olympic Games. The sports infrastructure in the region has been upgraded and more than 50 lakh youth are engaged in sports activities.
The Khelo India Winter Games will take place from [date] to [date] in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir, and will feature 9 sports events. The games are supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and are organized by the J&K Sports Council and the Winter Games Association, J&K.
Jammu & Kashmir has won the top spot in both previous editions of the Khelo India Winter Games and it is expected that the 3rd edition will be equally successful. The games will be a showcase of the talent and skills of the country’s young athletes and a testament to the progress made in the field of sports in India.
