Lionel Scaloni: In the aftermath of Argentina’s 1-0 triumph over Brazil in a World Cup qualifier, Manager Lionel Scaloni hinted at a potential departure from his role. During a scheduled post-match press conference, Scaloni extended his comments about his future, emphasizing the need for thorough consideration. Declaring it as “not a goodbye,” he expressed the challenges of maintaining the high standards set by the national team.
Scaloni expressed, “I have a lot to ponder regarding what path I want to take.” “It’s difficult to continue at this level. The bar has been set very high, and the team needs a coach with boundless energy and well-being.”
Acknowledging the demanding nature of leading the national team to victory, Scaloni expressed his intention to discuss his thoughts with Chiqui Tapia, the president of the Argentina Football Association, and the players. He emphasized the necessity for a manager who possesses unwavering energy.
Scaloni emphasized, “I have to do a lot of soul-searching. Sustaining success is challenging, given the high standards that have been established.”
The manager, who had a successful five-year tenure, including winning the Copa America in 2021 and securing Argentina’s first World Cup since 1986, took a photo with his coaching staff in the Maracana after the stadium had cleared.
Argentina is slated to return to action in March, although the schedule for the international break has not been finalized.
