His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, made a significant diplomatic move today by paying a courtesy visit to the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This encounter marks a pivotal moment in reinforcing the longstanding and robust relationship between Bhutan and India.
In a warm reception, President Murmu expressed her delight at Prime Minister Tobgay choosing India for his inaugural foreign visit after he assumed office. She emphasized the deep-rooted ties of trust, goodwill, and understanding that have characterized the relationship between the two nations at every level. Notably, she underscored the shared spiritual heritage of Buddhism, which serves as a profound bond between India and Bhutan.
Highlighting the multifaceted nature of the bilateral partnership, President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of India in sectors ranging from energy cooperation to developmental assistance. She lauded the close people-to-people relations, trade linkages, and investment collaborations that have flourished over the years. Moreover, she reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Bhutan’s socio-economic development, particularly focusing on the aspirations of the youth.
President Murmu assured Prime Minister Tobgay that Bhutan could rely on India as a steadfast friend and partner. She reiterated India’s privilege in collaborating with Bhutan in various developmental initiatives aimed at fostering prosperity and well-being among the Bhutanese populace. Crucially, she emphasized India’s dedication to aligning its development assistance with Bhutan’s priorities and aspirations, ensuring a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership.
