A significant bilateral meeting occurred on July 2nd, 2023, in New Delhi between Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) of India, and H.E. Mr. Le Thanh Long, the Minister of Justice of Vietnam. The meeting fostered a cordial and friendly atmosphere, allowing both sides to discuss cooperation in the field of Law and Justice.
Strengthening Ties between India and Vietnam
Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), emphasized the close and longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam, which has thrived over the past 50 years. He highlighted Vietnam’s significance as an important partner in India’s Act East Policy, which seeks to enhance engagement and cooperation with countries in the East and Southeast Asian region. The bilateral meeting provided a platform to further strengthen the ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in fruitful discussions on measures for cooperation in the areas of Law and Justice. The aim was to enhance the existing bilateral relations and elevate them to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partners. The discussions revolved around various aspects of law, legal frameworks, and justice systems, with a focus on identifying potential areas of cooperation where both countries can mutually benefit.
Towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
The bilateral meeting proved to be beneficial in augmenting efforts to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Vietnam in the field of Law and Justice. The ministers expressed their willingness to formalize this collaboration through an MoU, which would serve as a framework for enhanced cooperation and exchange of expertise. The MoU would provide a solid foundation for joint initiatives and activities aimed at strengthening the legal systems and justice mechanisms of both nations.
