The Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an official flood forecast, raising concerns about the deteriorating flood situation along the Brahmaputra River in Dhubri, Assam. The latest data reveals that the river is flowing at a critical level of 28.81 meters, which is 0.19 meters above its danger level of 28.62 meters.
This alarming situation has prompted the CWC to categorize the flood as severe, highlighting the potential risks and challenges posed by rising water levels in the region. The falling trend in water levels offers a glimmer of hope, but the situation remains critical, requiring continuous monitoring and preparedness.
“The Brahmaputra River is a lifeline for the people of Assam, providing water for agriculture and other essential activities. However, during the monsoon season, the river’s swelling waters often lead to devastating floods, displacing communities, damaging infrastructure, and affecting lives and livelihoods”.
“Local authorities and disaster management teams are working tirelessly to respond to the situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of affected residents. Evacuation efforts, relief operations, and the distribution of essential supplies are underway to support those in need”.
As the situation evolves, it is crucial for residents in flood-prone areas to stay informed and heed the advice and warnings provided by authorities. Additionally, community resilience and preparedness are essential in mitigating the impact of such natural disasters.
The Central Water Commission’s flood forecast serves as a vital tool in managing and responding to flood events, providing timely information to guide decision-making and disaster response efforts.
