Bye-Elections for 26 Assembly Constituencies to Coincide with Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Bye-election: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed plans for bye-elections in 26 assembly constituencies across nine states, to be conducted concurrently with the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Addressing the press at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Kumar outlined the states where bye-elections would occur, including Bihar, Haryana, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

The polling for these bye-elections is scheduled to align with the dates of the Lok Sabha polls, slated for 19 April, 26 April, 7 May, 13 May, 20 May, 25 May, and 1 June. The counting of votes for both the Lok Sabha and bye-elections will take place on 4 June, according to CEC Rajiv Kumar.

The distribution of assembly constituencies per state for the bye-elections includes six in Himachal Pradesh, five in Gujarat, four in Uttar Pradesh, two in West Bengal, and one each in Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tripura, West Bengal, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, CEC Rajiv Kumar detailed the schedule for the 17 Lok Sabha Elections, which will be conducted in seven phases, commencing on 19 April. Phase-wise, the elections will cover 102 parliamentary seats on 19 April, 89 seats on 26 April, 94 seats on 7 May, 96 seats on 13 May, 49 seats on 20 May, 57 seats on 25 May, and 57 seats on 1 June.

Furthermore, Rajiv Kumar announced that along with the Lok Sabha Elections, four states – Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha – will hold simultaneous polls, coinciding with the Lok Sabha polls.
