On the 17th of August, “The Central Water Commission (CWC) issued a grave flood forecast for the River Kosi in Bihar, specifically highlighting the Birpur area in Supaul district”. The river’s water level has reached a critical point, and the situation is being closely monitored by authorities.
As of the latest report, the River Kosi at Birpur is flowing at a level of 74.86 meters. This is a matter of great concern as it is 0.16 meters above its danger level, which stands at 74.7 meters. The steady rise in water levels has put the region on high alert for potential flooding.
The CWC’s flood forecast indicates that the River Kosi continues to be in a severe situation, and the danger of flooding remains significant. The relentless flow of water and the steady trend of rising levels have raised apprehensions among residents and local authorities alike.
“Floods can have devastating effects on communities, causing damage to property, infrastructure, and livelihoods. The CWC’s timely warning serves as a crucial tool for preparedness and response, enabling local authorities to take necessary measures to mitigate the impact of potential flooding”.
“Residents in the Birpur area and other vulnerable regions along the River Kosi are advised to stay informed about the evolving situation and follow the instructions of local authorities. Evacuation plans, if necessary, should be prepared in advance to ensure the safety and well-being of the population”.
As the River Kosi continues to flow perilously close to its danger level, it is imperative for all stakeholders to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with potential flooding.
