Kiren Rijiju: A Stalwart in Indian Politics
Born on 19 November 1971, Kiren Rijiju has carved a significant niche in Indian politics. Currently serving as the Cabinet Minister of Earth Sciences in the Government of India since 2023, he represents the Arunachal West constituency in the Lok Sabha, a role he has held since 2014. Rijiju’s political journey is marked by a series of impactful ministerial positions, including Minister of State for Home Affairs (2014-2019), Minister of State for Minority Affairs (2019-2021), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs (2019-2021), and the Law Minister (2021-2023).
A Glimpse into Kiren Rijiju’s Early Life and Achievements
Hailing from Nakhu near Nafra in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, Kiren Rijiju was born to Rinchin Kharu and Chirai Rijiju. His father, a pivotal figure in Arunachal Pradesh’s political history, served as the first pro-tem speaker of the state.
Beyond his political prowess, Rijiju showcased athletic abilities during his college days, excelling in sports like football and badminton as of February 2023.
Educational Pursuits: A Scholar and a Sportsman
Rijiju pursued his B.A. from Hansraj College, University of Delhi, followed by a graduate degree in law (LL.B) from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 1998. This dual commitment to academics and sports underlines his holistic approach to personal and professional development.
