On the 11th of August, “Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid a heartfelt tribute to Minimata, the first woman MP of the state, on the occasion of her death anniversary. In his homage, Baghel praised Minimata for her simple yet impactful personality, describing her as a compassionate individual who dedicated her entire life to serving humanity”.
Minimata’s contributions to society were profound and far-reaching. Notably, she played a crucial role in advocating for the passage of the Untouchability Prevention Act in Parliament, which aimed to safeguard the civil rights of Dalits. Her vocal opposition to the prevalent issues of child marriage and the dowry system further highlighted her commitment to social reform and justice.
“Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also lauded Minimata’s efforts in providing employment opportunities and industrial training to local residents at the Bhilai Steel Plant. This initiative not only empowered the community but also contributed to the region’s economic growth and development”.
“Highlighting the government’s continued dedication to Minimata’s ideals, Baghel mentioned the ‘Minimata Mahtari Jatan Yojana.’ This scheme extends financial assistance to working women from low-income groups in the unorganized sector, reflecting Minimata’s enduring legacy of supporting women and their empowerment”.
Minimata’s impact transcends her time, as Baghel revealed that a state-level award has been established in her name to honor outstanding contributions in the field of society and women’s upliftment. Additionally, the Hasdeo Bango dam has been dedicated to her memory, serving as a testament to her enduring legacy.
