On the 8th of April Himanta Biswa Sarma, an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of the state of Assam, recently paid tribute to Veer Mangal Pandey, a national hero who played a significant role in India’s fight for independence from colonial British rule. Sarma acknowledged Pandey’s heroic actions against the British Raj, which sparked the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857, marking the beginning of India’s first independence movement. On the occasion of Pandey’s Punyatithi, a day of remembrance for departed souls, Sarma expressed his reverence for the great patriot and paid a humble tribute to his contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
