Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan recently announced a significant step towards preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage. The establishment of the “Maihar Band Gurukul” on state land is poised to become a milestone in reviving the historic Maihar Band, which has been an integral part of the region’s cultural legacy for a century.

CM Chauhan emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to cultural conservation in the state. The Maihar Band, an orchestral composition created by the renowned Padma Vibhushan Baba Ustad Allauddin Khan, will be a focal point of the Gurukul’s training. The initiative aims to impart the classical orchestral skills of the Maihar Band to a new generation of musicians.

To facilitate this cultural revival, trainees at the Maihar Band Gurukul will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹10,000 to support their musical practice. In recognition of the vital role teachers play in nurturing artistic talent, an honor fund of ₹37,500 per month will be provided to the dedicated instructors.

The announcement underscores Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating its cultural heritage. By reviving the Maihar Band tradition through the Gurukul, CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and the government are not only preserving a precious cultural legacy but also ensuring that the soul of Maihar continues to inspire and enchant generations to come.
