CM Yogi Pays Tribute To ‘Birju Maharaj’ On His Death Anniversary.

On the 17th of January CM Yogi pays Humble tributes to the great Kathak emperor, ‘Padma Vibhushan’ Pandit Birju Maharaj on his death anniversary and said His contribution to making Indian dance famous around the world will always inspire the art world.

Know About Pandit Birju Maharaj:-

An exponent of the Lucknow “Kalka-Bindadin” Gharana of Kathak dance in India, Pandit Birju Maharaj (4 February 1938 – 17 January 2022) was an Indian dancer, composer, and singer.

His two uncles, Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj, and his father and guru, Acchan Maharaj, were all members of the Maharaj family of Kathak dancers of which he was a descendant. He was also a vocalist and practiced Hindustani classical music.

After working along with his uncle, Shambhu Maharaj, at Bhartiya Kala Kendra, later the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, he remained head of the latter for several years, He opened his own dance school, Kalashram, in Delhi in 1998, when he retired.

In 1986, Birju Maharaj was a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.

Maharaj had five children (2 sons and 3 daughters), and he was married. Maharaj later developed kidney disease and diabetes and required dialysis. He died from a heart attack at his residence in Delhi, on 17 January 2022, less than a month before his 84th birthday.
