Congress Released Ninth List of Candidates for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The Congress party has unveiled its ninth list of candidates for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making strategic replacements and fielding prominent leaders for key constituencies.

In a significant move, veteran leader CP Joshi has been named as the Congress candidate from Rajasthan’s Bhilwara constituency. Joshi’s nomination comes alongside other notable changes, including the replacement of former Union minister M Veerappa Moily with young contender Raksha Ramaiah in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur constituency.

The decision to replace Moily, an 84-year-old leader who had previously won the Chikkaballapur seat twice, underscores the party’s emphasis on rejuvenating its candidate pool with fresh faces.

Meanwhile, E Thukaram has been nominated as the Congress candidate from Bellary (ST) and Sunil Bose from Chamarajanagar (SC), further solidifying the party’s representation across diverse communities.

With the addition of these candidates, the Congress has now declared a total of 211 contenders for the Lok Sabha polls, though suspense looms over high-profile seats such as Amethi and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.

UP Congress chief Ajai Rai’s recent statement indicated that discussions regarding these constituencies are ongoing within the party leadership, adding to the anticipation surrounding candidate announcements.

Amidst preparations for the elections, the Congress has faced challenges from the Income Tax department, which has issued a notice demanding payment of ₹1,823.08 crore. Despite these financial hurdles, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh has affirmed the Congress’s resilience, vowing not to succumb to attempts to undermine its financial stability.

As the countdown to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls continues, political parties across the spectrum gear up for a spirited electoral battle. With the first phase of nominations already filed by March 27, the stage is set for a dynamic electoral process spanning seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
