Objectives of the Project to Establish Smoother Connectivity and Promote Socio-Economic Development in Northeast India
On 26th April 2023, Nitin Gadkari said 61.8 km long section of NH-6 with four lanes, connecting Jorabat and Shillong. The main aim of this project is to improve the connectivity between the two capital cities of Guwahati in Assam and Shillong in Meghalaya, making it more seamless and efficient. The project aims to promote socio-economic development in Northeast India by facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services, thereby creating job opportunities and boosting economic growth.
Benefits of the Newly Developed Stretch Including Enhanced Connectivity and a Better Commuting Experience
The newly developed stretch of NH-6 enhances connectivity between Meghalaya and other northeastern states such as Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and even the neighboring country of Bangladesh. The serene hills and gradual incline of this route contribute to the overall commuting experience. The project will also reduce travel time, transportation costs, and vehicular emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability.
