The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made headlines with the arrest of Jyoti Priya Mallick, currently serving as the Minister-In-Charge of Forest Affairs and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources in the Government of West Bengal. This arrest, dated October 27, 2023, is in connection to a case revolving around a Food Scam in the state.
Jyoti Priya Mallick had previously held the position of Minister-In-Charge of the Food and Supply Department in the West Bengal government, a role he served from 2011 to 2021. His recent arrest in connection to the ongoing investigation into the alleged Food Scam has raised eyebrows and triggered discussions regarding potential corruption in the administration.
“The Legal Designated Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Ld. CMM) court has sanctioned a 14-day custody of Jyoti Priya Mallick to the Enforcement Directorate. This custody has been extended until November 12, 2023, allowing for further investigation into the allegations against the former minister”.
“This significant development in the case has attracted widespread attention, considering the prominence of the individual involved and the implications for the governance and accountability of public officials. The alleged involvement in a food scam, particularly during his tenure as Minister for Food and Supply, highlights the seriousness of the accusations against Jyoti Priya Mallick”.
The arrest and subsequent custody granted by the court underscore the ED’s intent to delve deeper into the matter, ensuring a thorough investigation to determine the truth behind the allegations.
