In a concerning update, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an official flood forecast that sounds the alarm for the Brahmaputra River at Neamatighat in Assam’s Jorhat district. The situation has escalated to a severe state, as the river’s water level continues to rise perilously, posing a significant threat to the surrounding communities and areas.
As per the latest data provided by the CWC, the Brahmaputra River at Neamatighat is currently flowing at a critical level of 86.02 meters, marking a sharp upward trend in water levels. This rise places the river 0.48 meters above its danger level of 85.54 meters, heightening concerns about potential flooding and its associated hazards.
The severity of the situation underscores the imminent risks faced by the local population, infrastructure, and environment in the Jorhat district. The rising water levels can lead to inundation of low-lying areas, displacement of residents, damage to property, disruption of essential services, and environmental degradation.
Authorities and disaster management teams are closely monitoring the situation, mobilizing resources, and taking precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the potential flood.
