On the 14th Feb, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) was abuzz with excitement as the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare organized a Cyclathon with the theme, ‘Cycle for Health’. The event is part of a larger initiative to promote healthy living and environment-friendly transportation. Faculty, staff, and students participated in large numbers with great fervor.

Cycling is a great way to promote physical fitness and well-being. The Ministry is keen on promoting cycling as a form of exercise, and they believe that this will help people lead healthier and happier lives.

The event at LHMC was just one of many that are being organized at all 1.56 lakh Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs) across the country. These events are part of the ongoing “Swastha Mann, Swastha Ghar” campaign, which was launched last year to promote awareness about healthy living.

Apart from cycling events, Health Melas are also being organized on the 14th of every month at all AB-HWCs across the country. These events will offer a range of activities such as Yoga, Zumba, Teleconsultation, Nikshay Poshan Abhiyan, Non-Communicable Diseases screening, and Drug Distribution, Sickle Cell Disease screening. The aim of these events is to promote and enhance awareness surrounding healthy living and provide citizens with the necessary tools and knowledge to lead healthy lives.

The Union Health Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, who is known for his enthusiasm for cycling and is also called the “Green MP,” has been urging people to use bicycles as a means of transportation.

He believes that cycling is an excellent way to stay fit and promote good health. The participants at LHMC, including the younger generation, were also encouraged to inculcate healthy practices in their lives to ensure physical and mental benefits.

Physical activity is a crucial aspect of healthy living. It helps keep non-communicable and lifestyle diseases at bay. The Ministry is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging citizens to take responsibility for their health. Events such as the Cyclathon and Health Melas are excellent ways to raise awareness about the importance of healthy living and inspire people to lead better lives.
