New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu swore in Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) at a brief ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, 9th November.

In the presence of President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairperson of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, CJI Chandrachud the 50th Chief Justice of India took the oath in English and in the name of God.

“Congratulations to Dr. Justice D Y Chandrachud on being sworn in as India’s 50th Chief Justice of India. May he have a fruitful tenure,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was not present at the event. I wish him a fruitful tenure ahead.

He was nominated as the Chief Justice of India on November 9, 2022, succeeding Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, but his nomination was challenged on the grounds of conflict of interest. The plea was dismissed a week before Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud’s oath-taking ceremony by a bench headed by Justice Uday Umesh Lalit.

President of India Draupadi Murmu shared a video in which she is swearing D.Y Chandrachud as 50th CJI to D Y Chandrachud.
