The Western Zone Vice Chancellors’ Conference convened with the chief guest, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, to discuss the critical matter of implementing the National Education Policy 2020. This significant gathering marked a crucial step in bringing the transformative reforms outlined in NEP-2020 to life.
Acknowledging Organizers and the Role of Gujarat
Shri Pradhan expressed his appreciation to the Government of Gujarat and the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda for hosting this zonal-level conference. He recognized their efforts in promoting the practical application of NEP-2020, emphasizing that the journey began in 2022 and is now progressing towards a brighter future for India.
Prioritizing Key Aspects of NEP-2020
Union Minister Pradhan highlighted that NEP-2020 places a strong emphasis on Bharatiya Bhasha, Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, skilling, employment, and entrepreneurship education. These are considered priority areas under the policy, and he expressed confidence that the conference would help define a path for effective NEP implementation.
The Roadmap for Multidisciplinary Education
The zonal conference addressed several key areas of NEP-2020, with a particular focus on quality of education, the skilling ecosystem, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, and internationalization. Minister Pradhan expressed hope that the insights and strategies developed during the conference would be compiled into best practices and case studies, ultimately paving the way for a unified approach to NEP-2020 implementation at the college level.
Technical Sessions and Panel Discussions
The conference featured multiple technical sessions and panel discussions on various facets of NEP-2020. Topics included access to quality education, equitable and inclusive education for socio-economically disadvantaged groups, the integration of skilling, industry connect, and employability, as well as innovation, entrepreneurship, research and development, and internationalization of education.

The event saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam, and the Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Prof. Vijay Kumar Srivastava. The conference also hosted eminent educationists and Vice Chancellors from various.
A Visit to the Iconic Statue of Unity
Following the conference, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan visited the renowned Statue of Unity in Kevadia. He lauded it as a symbol of pride, unity, peace, and gratitude, paying tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India.’ The Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest monument, stands as an essential destination for travelers and an emblem of India’s rich history and heritage.
