Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya commemorates World Cancer Day by calling for a united effort to strengthen the global fight against cancer. Acknowledging the significance of the day, he emphasizes the collective responsibility to raise awareness and promote the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer worldwide.
Dr. Mandaviya underlines the commitment of PM Narendra Modi’s government to ensuring affordable cancer treatment through various initiatives. Notably, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Janaushadhi Kendras, and the upgrading of health infrastructure play pivotal roles in achieving this objective.
World Cancer Day, observed internationally on 4th February, aligns with the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, aiming to significantly reduce the impact of cancer-related illness and deaths. Led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the day serves as an opportunity to mobilize the global community against preventable suffering from cancer.
The primary objective of World Cancer Day is to rally the international community against the injustice of preventable suffering caused by cancer. The United Nations actively observes this day, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle the challenges associated with cancer prevention and treatment.
Dr. Mandaviya’s statement also addresses the importance of countering misinformation, raising awareness, and reducing the stigma associated with cancer. The day promotes initiatives like #NoHairSelfie, a global movement symbolizing courage for cancer patients, where participants shave their heads virtually or physically and share their images on social media.
World Cancer Day sees hundreds of events worldwide, demonstrating support for those affected by cancer. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya’s advocacy for global collaboration resonates with the international commitment to eliminate the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer. As the world unites against this formidable adversary, the efforts of leaders like Dr. Mandaviya contribute significantly to the ongoing fight for a cancer-free future.
