Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated CGHS Wellness Centres in Chandigarh and Panchkula, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare to every citizen. The expansion of CGHS facilities aims to fulfill the demand of employees and pensioners, reduce waiting times, and enhance ease of living.
Ensuring Accessible & Quality Healthcare for All Citizens
The government considers providing accessible and quality healthcare to every citizen as a top priority. Recognizing the importance of healthcare facilities, the expansion of CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) has become a focus area. The goal is to ensure that people can access quality healthcare services regardless of their location in the country.
CGHS Facilities: Fulfilling Demands and Reducing Waiting Times
With the inauguration of CGHS Wellness Centres in Chandigarh and Panchkula, Panchkula becomes the 80th city with CGHS facilities. This accomplishment fulfills a long-standing demand of the employees and pensioners in the city. Chandigarh already had a CGHS Wellness Centre serving 47,000 registered beneficiaries. The opening of the second Wellness Centre brings relief to the beneficiaries as the workload will be divided, resulting in reduced waiting times and improved ease of living.
Integration of CGHS Technology with the National Health Authority
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the integration of CGHS technology with that of the National Health Authority. This integration enhances the coordination and efficiency of healthcare services. As the government aims to expand CGHS to 100 cities in India, the integration will play a crucial role in increasing people’s access to good quality healthcare across the country.
Commitment to Pro-Poor Healthcare: Success of Ayushman Bharat
The Modi government has always prioritized ensuring that the poor have equal access to affordable and quality healthcare. The success of Ayushman Bharat, a flagship healthcare program, demonstrates this commitment. By expanding CGHS facilities and focusing on pro-poor healthcare initiatives, the government aims to bridge the healthcare gap and provide equal opportunities for healthcare services to all citizens.
Mitigating Hardships and Expanding Coverage
The opening of the CGHS Wellness Centres in Chandigarh and Panchkula will not only alleviate the hardships faced by pensioners in the Tricity area but also benefit individuals residing in nearby areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. The expansion of CGHS cities from 25 in 2014 to 80 in 2023 signifies the government’s dedication to extending healthcare coverage and ensuring the well-being of citizens across the country.
